"Beauty and the Beast" to be a Beauty

Beauty and the Beast Logo
Ross Music Theatre and M & M Productions will be producing Disney's Beauty and the Beast at Reinhart Auditorium this July. Long known for their giant sets, beautiful costumes, large casts, great sound and lighting effects, Ross Music Theatre plans to make this Disney classic one of their grandest productions to date. Maybe best known for their productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat in 2000 and Jesus Christ Superstar in 2001 at the Star Plaza Theatre, marking these plays the first full Broadway Musicals produced by local regional theatre at that venue.

Pre-production started last August, casting started in March, costumes began in March, and rehearsals started in April and the massive sets are being built as this is being written. All the costumes are being custom made, a two story multi room castle, with winding staircases, balcony, and giant fire place is being built. The Castle interior is so immense (20 feet high over 40 feet wide and 35 feet deep) that few other theatre in this area, if any, could even fit it on their stage. In addition, Belle’s little village is being recreated, 26 cordless mics, racks of sound equipment, and a U-Haul full of new moving lights to add to the 12 M & M and Ross Music Theatre already own. There are also 5 foggers and two hazers and video projection used for this production. Add to that some wonderful performers, some familiar to our stage and others that are doing their first show with us. This cast has members from all over NW Indiana including Crown Point, Highland, Hobart, Merrillville, Portage, and Valparaiso. In addition a 24 piece orchestra will round out what should be an incredible night of family entertainment. Although this is one of their most expensive shows to produce, tickets are still $10.00 for adults and $9.00 for students and senior citizens in advance. They can be purchased at Dance Stuf in Merrillville, or M & M Productions in Hobart. For more information call 219-947-4922 or 219-769-2864 or visit the M & M produdctions web site.

I was in the chorus of Beauty and the Beast. I just have to say that this was probably my most favorite play out of all the other plays I have taken part in. Everyone in the cast and my fellow chorus people were extremely nice and fun. They all had a good sense of humor. I made some pretty great friends that I know I will never forget! This play will always live on in my heart. Thanks to everyone who made it the way it was... BRILLIANT!

Love and Peace,
